1959-2019 60th Anniversary Year

Chiltern  Edge Horticultural Society (CEHS)

Welcome to the website of your local gardening club serving Sonning Common, Peppard and the surrounding area.

The Society was formed in 1959 and has membership of about 150.

The Society holds evening talks during the winter months and coach trips to interesting gardens during the summer. We hold two flower and produce shows a year and a summer garden reception for members and guests.

We are a friendly bunch, always happy to welcome new members so why not come   along to one of our winter talks or shows and give us a try. Then perhaps you might like to become a full member of the Society (annual cost £6). You don't need any qualifications to join – just an interest in gardens and/or growing things..

In this talk Robert will provide an overview of OGP methods and experience

Come at 7 pm for coffee or tea.

Community Seed Swap

In anticipation of a community Seed Swap (planned for March 2020) please could you start to save and label the valuable seeds that are now abundant in your gardens.  This will be a great opportunity to get seeds for free and a brilliant way to share seeds from the garden and donate/acquire more of the out of date, half- used seed packets that most of us have stashed away but can't bear to put in the bin.  This is a new event and your support would be greatly appreciated.  There will be more details of the seed swap to follow in the New Year.

2015 Annual General Meeting

Tuesday 10th December at 7.15pm

Peppard Memorial Hall

This is your opportunity to have your say on what you want from your Society.  Your Chairman and current Committee greatly look forward to seeing a good number of members at the AGM and to hearing your comments and ideas for the coming year.  Finally, any items for inclusion on the Agenda should be sent to cehs561@gmail.com

Tuesday 14th January 2020 at 7.30pm at Peppard Memorial Hall.  "Chiltern Seeds” by Nina Marshall

Founded as a supplier of specialist & unusual plant seeds in 1976 in Buckinghamshire by a husband and wife team, Chiltern Seeds were famous for their amusing and honest catalogues. Run by the same couple in semi-retirement from Cumbria, Chiltern Seeds is now in the hands of their daughters who seek to maintain and build on the company’s heritage. They are now also based in Wallingford so are both our local seed company and truly Chiltern based again! Nina Marshall, their marketing manager will expand on the history, legacy and objectives of this special local company and its products just when we gardeners traditionally turn to our seed catalogues for the coming year. Come and be tempted!
