Tuesday 11th November at 14.30. “How To Grow In Peat Free Compost” by Nicola Barker

As the traditional peat based composts we grew up with have been banned we are all having to adapt to using peat free “alternatives”. Results are often mixed! Are the successes luck or accident? Can future success be guaranteed and how? Were the failures our fault? What can we learn from our problems?

As the RHS Peat Free Compost Transition Coordinator Nikki Barker, no one is better placed to encourage us and put us right! This promises to be a rare opportunity to learn about this essential topic from a true expert! Nikki also promises that there will be a chance to get hands on – disposable gloves may be in order!

Please remember too that other gardener friends from the area are welcome to join us for this afternoon of “compost & cakes”. They just need to pay £5 at the door!

Tuesday 13th January at 14.30. “A Short History of the English Garden” by Kevin Tooher

Something different for your diaries!

Since January weather can be very uncertain and “challenging” for travel we will continue to use modern technology to “beam in” our mid-winter expert speaker from a distant location (well Kent”!). On this occasion however we plan that his audience will gather together in our usual location (“PWMH”) to listen (and hopefully “see”) someone who we would normally  be unavailable to us. All the other usual CEHS afternoon talk attractions will however be available to members: teas/coffees, cakes, biscuits, society news & raffles.

Please join us to listen to this fascinating speaker, see if we can pull the necessary technology together and, perhaps, help us do so!
