Chiltern Edge Horticultural Society (CEHS)

Welcome to the website of your local gardening club serving Sonning Common, Peppard and the surrounding area.

The Society was formed in 1959 and has membership of about 150.

The Society holds evening talks during the winter months and coach trips to interesting gardens during the summer. We hold two flower and produce shows a year and a summer garden reception for members and guests.

We are a friendly bunch, always happy to welcome new members so why not come along to one of our winter talks or shows and give us a try. Then perhaps you might like to become a full member of the Society (annual cost £6). You don't need any qualifications to join – just an interest in gardens and/or growing things..

The Autumn Show

The growing seasons this year have been very extreme, cultivation of flowers and vegetables have been challenging to say the least but looking at all the entries prior to the judging was amazing at what was produced, beautiful dahlias, flower arrangements and a good assortment of fruit and vegetables including a monster marrow weighing 23lbs, plenty of domestic, handicrafts and photo entries, the children excelled in their entries, thank you to all members and children who entered for their time and effort. A new Trophy was introduced this year ‘The Francis Williams Cup’ for the ‘Best vegetable exhibit in show’, this was awarded to Martin Hedges.

Sara Batting opened the Award Presentations with an endearing speech outlining the aspects of gardening and growing.

Overall the Show went very well , thank you to everyone involved and helpers on the day, it is a good team, and well attended by the local villagers, we look forward to the Spring Show.”
